How to protect your computer from malware
Sources of Malware (Virus):
The following are the primary source of malware. I had listed only common sources.
- Installing applications and software from unauthorized sites or third-party sources.
- Giving access to download applications from third-party sites on your gadgets.
- Transferring applications (software) from infected external sources.
- Using cracked applications and software.
- Responding to spam emails especially .exe files.
- Using weak security credentials.
1. Use reliable anti-virus packages:
If you are an avid user of an internet, then you should buy and install a premium version of anti-virus packages. There are two types of anti-virus packages which are available commonly, they are (i) Anti-virus package for pc (without internet security) (ii) Anti-virus package for a total security (With Internet security).
If you didn’t use an internet frequently, then you can use free versions or else it was recommended to use premium versions.
(I am a blogger and an avid user of an internet so to protect my system from malware, I am using Premium version of Kaspersky Total Security. I have been using this for 7 years and I am much comfortable with this. Whenever I try to login malicious site, my Kaspersky anti-virus gives me an alert.
One more interesting feature is you can also choose the number of systems in which you are going to use, in this case, you will discount. You can save a few bucks from this by choosing 5 users and sharing it with friends.
After the plan expires, it will automatically install a special free version.)

2. Install applications (software) from trusted sources:
when you require any software applications, install them only from trusted sources or respective first website. If you use Bluetooth or any private sharing apps, there might be a chance for malware.
If you are using drives or clouds to import files, then scanning should be made before making it permanent.
In Google drives, smaller files are usually scanned for a virus but not for larger files.
Never try to install unknown .exe files.
3. Disable the third party downloads:
While you are surfing the internet, some website does automatic downloads without your permission. Their main aim is to promote malware and promote unauthorized software which either causes trouble directly or indirectly.
You can change the settings to <Always ask permission before downloading>
Many Paid to click sites are doing these things. I personally experienced this from one top PTC site which installs an extension without my permission then only I had upgraded to a pro version of an anti-virus package.
4. Never use Unsecured Wifi:
If you use Unsecured Public Wifi means then you are giving access to see your computer without your access.
Always use stable and pass code protected Wifi. Never share your Wifi openly. If you wish to share your network better restrict the number of users.
A strong password combination is a mandatory thing to prevent yourself from scammers.
A strong password should consist of higher-case alphabets, lower-case alphabets, special characters, and numbers.
Weak Password: stacey1996, oooooooooo, 111111111 (These type of passwords can be guessed easily)
Strong Password: @98^john_CARP&%$# (It takes more time to enter this password and many logins needed)
5. Do software/system updates without fail:
A regular software update and system update is essential for a better performance.
A new software update/system update would contain enhanced security features and better performance optimization.
A software update/system updates are mostly available every one-month interval. This is because an old software security pattern can be easily identified within a few days. On every new update, the security pattern is changed and improved.
So those who are using older version may likely face trouble.
How to remove a malware from your computer:
1. Format your system:
Formatting will erase all data which is currently present in that system. But it’s a better option if you don’t have enough knowledge of technical things. The Formatting can be done for a full computer or a particular drive.
If the quantity of malware is high then you should perform a full format. In case if the malware is at a beginning stage, it’s enough to format a particular drive.
If you have free anti-virus package installed on your system, you can spot the infected drive and perform any one of the above-mentioned options.
2. Remove the infected file:
In premium anti-virus packages, there is an option to spot the infected and you can delete the same.
A complete scan is essential to perform this action. If an infected file or drive is more important, you can apply Quarantine to provide temporary relief.
(Quarantine – This will prevent the malware from spreading to other files and drives)
